Alex Murray

We are from the United States, and decided to get married in Edinburgh after planning our vacation there. Riddle's Court was the perfect venue for our elopement. The Seton room was intimate and personal, with absolutely beautiful architecture. There were so many great places for photos, and it is conveniently located on the Royal Mile in the Old Town, so we could walk from our hotel. To go along with the scenery, the staff were very friendly. They let us look around the day before and wanted our wedding to be perfect as much as we did. Eloping was definitely the right decision for us and we cannot recommend Riddle's Court highly enough.

Thanks again for helping to make our wedding day perfect!

We had our wedding at Riddle's Court in September 2018, and we found Gail and the team to be an absolute delight. They were friendly, approachable (even with silly questions!) and nothing was too much trouble. The venue is really quirky and was unlike anywhere else we had seen; unique and steeped in history and charm. Also, being located just off the Royal Mile was ideal for us as we wanted somewhere in the city centre. On the day, everything went really smoothly, and we had the informal, relaxed wedding we hoped for. We also stayed in the apartment upstairs (the Kings Chamber) which is stunning, and made our weekend even more special. Huge thanks again to all the staff at Riddle's!

Riddles court was a perfect venue for our late October wedding. We wanted somewhere with character and warmth, and Riddles court provided this and more. Open fires in every room, unique and unusual heritage features provided character and atmosphere to a lovely venue perfect for an autumn/winter celebration.

The customer service was great, and the team where very accommodating to our every request. The list of preferred suppliers was very good and we were able to decorate the venue to our taste, making for the most beautiful of days.

We stayed in the attached apartment which was not only very beautifully decorated but convenient. I stayed the night before so I was able to get ready with my bridesmaids and just walk across the courtyard to the venue. We had 56 guests at our ceremony which I have to say was a bit of squeeze but with two rooms to choose from we more than made use of the larger room in the evening to accommodate around 100. In summary, the venue and team at riddles add to what can only be described as the happiest of days.

We loved the Patrick Geddes Centre at Riddles Court from the moment we saw it and we knew we wanted our wedding ceremony to be held there.
Our first meeting with Louise until our ceremony was professional, efficient and friendly. We had quite a few specific requirements for our special day but nothing was too much trouble or a problem.
On the day everything exceeded myself and my husband's expectations, it was wonderful and many of our guests commented on how amazing the venue was.
I would highly recommend the Patrick Geddes Centre for your wedding or event. It's in a beautiful historic area of Edinburgh, the venue is stunning and the service is top class.

Katy Hindmarsh-Clark

We had the best wedding at Riddle's Court last month. It's a beautiful historic venue, right in the heart of Edinburgh and has been wonderfully restored. Our day ran like clockwork and we couldn't have dreamt of a more perfect wedding.

A big part of what made it all so perfect, was the wonderful team at Riddle's. Gail and Louise were so helpful and accommodating in the run up to our special day, always willing to chat to us and have us in to see the venue when we needed to. On the day itself, all of the team were great - helpful and around whenever we needed anything, but not at all intrusive. Finally, since the day Louise and Gail have been in touch to help us deal with post-wedding pick ups etc - nothing has ever been too much trouble.

We couldn't recommend Riddle's Court any more highly. If you want a romantic, stress-free wedding in the heart of Edinburgh, it's definitely the spot for you.

My husband, Neil, and I got married in June 2019 in the beautiful Riddle's Court. We had the most wonderful day with all our friends and family, and Riddle's Court played a huge part in making it so special.

In the run up to our wedding, Gail and Louise, the events coordinators at Riddle's Court, allowed us the flexibility to plan our day as we envisioned, and were always eager to accommodate our wishes. On the day, their help and support was key in helping the day flow seamlessly (from our point of view anyway!), which meant we were able to fully enjoy the time with our friends and family.

Riddle's Court is an absolutely stunning venue (all our guests thought so too!) and we feel so lucky to have hosted our wedding in its historic rooms. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Riddle's Court to anyone considering having their wedding there.

We are so happy that we chose Riddles Court for our wedding in October 2019. We knew that we wanted to get married in Edinburgh City Centre, however we were struggling to find a venue that wasn't too small or too big, then we stumbled across Riddles Court by chance and our numbers fit in perfectly. We visited and fell in love with the history, architecture and the overall feel of Riddles Court.

From our first meeting, through to planning, the actual day itself and even afterwards, the events coordinators were a pleasure to work with. Always very communicative and happy to help. We were offered a lot of flexibility so that the day could be exactly how we imagined!

The day itself was so relaxed and everything seemed to flow seamlessly! All our guests remarked on what a beautiful and unique venue it was.

All in all, we would highly recommend Riddles Court to anyone looking for a truly special venue in the heart of Edinburgh!

Riddles Court is a fantastic choice for history lovers, aesthetes or people looking for an alternative from the usual...Big thank you to the staff at this venue: wedding planning was not stressful in the slightest due to their friendly and easy manner.

Kendal Gorrell

A fantastic, intimate venue perfect for our small wedding. After looking around at many locations in Edinburgh, we settled on Riddle's Court after falling in love with the aesthetic and architecture of the place. We are a Canadian couple and weren't able to see the venue in-person until the day before the wedding. Sp Riddle's was perfect because it was already so beautiful, it didn't need a lot of decor to make it shine and we wanted to keep it simple coming from overseas. Our contact, Louise, was extremely helpful in getting us the information we needed to make decisions from afar. As the bride, I chose to stay overnight in the King's Chambers, and it was such a good idea to be that close! Everything ran so smoothly day-of, Our wedding party of 16 people couldn't stop talking about the amazing location we chose!

Riddle's Court is just a lovely venue for a wedding, and Louise and the rest of the team were fantastic on the day as well as beforehand. The building has an amazing Old Town Edinburgh atmosphere, with its size making it cosy and welcoming, but features like the painted ceiling and the chandeliers bringing some magic. The on-site apartment is absolutely great for getting ready (you can see the guests arrive in the courtyard which is fun!) and both stylish and convenient for the wedding night. We can't recommend Riddle's Court enough!

If you want something a bit different but very Scottish then this is the place. Such a gorgeous hidden venue and so close to the castle and the Royal Mile. It was exactly what we had imagined and it doesn’t need a lot of decor or flowers as the venue speaks for itself. The team accommodated all our needs, we had a lot of kids and they were amazing with them. They were there on hand should we have had any questions and were very organised. Made the day flow so easily! We had an amazing day, as did all our family and friends. Nothing was too much bother and our photographs of the day just show how gorgeous the venue is and how lovely it looked on the day. Everyone was talking about it and how they had never been before and how amazing it all was.

We got married less than a week before lockdown when things were starting to happen with Covid-19. Obviously we were glad we didn’t have to cancel but the team out measures in place even then, constantly cleaning (very discreetly I may add) wearing gloves and just a quick mention to our guests as they arrived about the importance of hand washing etc. I’m so sorry for all the couples having to cancel their weddings at this time but rest assured when your big day comes around at this amazing venue you won’t be disappointed and all the reason to celebrate more.

Honestly everything about the venue was perfect and we can't rate the staff highly enough. Other venues we looked at had 'packages' and a slight pressure to have the wedding a certain way. With Riddles Court we were able to have the small wedding we wanted and it was perfect. Roseanne was really communicative and quick to reply to any queries Josh and had. Roseanne and team set up everything and communicated with our vendors which made the final two weeks before the wedding surprisingly relaxing! Everything was set up and looking beautiful. The building is already a stunning venue but they did an amazing job setting up and moving the chairs downstairs for the dinner.

When we first fell in love with Riddle's Court and chose it as our wedding venue, we had no idea that a global pandemic would get in the way of our plans. We chose Riddle's Court because we loved the beautiful and unique building, which was the perfect size for the intimate wedding we wanted. Unfortunately our original date in April had to be postponed, but Roseanne and the rest of the team were so incredibly helpful allowing us to rearrange it not once but twice as events unfolded. They kept in touch at every point, and went above and beyond to ensure our day in August was just as special and memorable as a 'normal' wedding - if not more so!

Due to restrictions, we had to scale back our attendees considerably, but Roseanne ensured all of our original guests were still able to attend our ceremony via Zoom, which she set up and managed on the day. My dad was even still able to give his Father of the Bride speech all the way from Gloucestershire! The team worked so hard to make sure the Library Room looked beautiful while keeping all of our in-person guests safe. We are so grateful for their flexibility and kindness - during the planning they definitely made a stressful, uncertain time much easier to manage and we felt we were in safe hands. Nothing was too difficult, and the day itself is one we will remember forever for all the right reasons.

We recently had our wedding at Riddle's Court and we could not be happier.

We first saw the venue almost two years ago, being shown round by someone who was so enthusiastic about the venue that you could see the beauty and passion of this historic building. we instantly fell in love with the place.

From the very first communication right up until today, the staff have been nothing short of amazing. They have been there every step of the way; answering every question with great care and detail, and since the COVID crisis, have been incredibly supportive. we had to change our wedding date, and then we lost our caterers, but even with furloughed staff they were there to quickly put our minds at ease and help us with not only new catering options, but also what our options were with each new restriction that was then announced.

We couldn't recommend this place enough.

The venue itself is beautiful, full of history and easily accessible, we didn't have to worry about how any of our guests would get there, or worry how our mobility impaired guests would get around; with great views over Edinburgh and a central location, it's a great choice. The lovely on-site apartment was perfect for that romantic place to stay and get ready in as well.

The day of the wedding was amazing; if anything had gone wrong behind scenes we would never have known. Riddle's Court looked stunning, and despite the day not being exactly as originally planned (thanks COVID), it was completly perfect. We didn't have to think about a single thing, the staff kept everything running on time, were able to help our guests, and in general helped us have a smooth and wonderful day.

We'd also like to mention both Gail and Roseanne from Riddle's Court, without whom the day would not have been the same. They were both there to help us in every way, always quick to respond, no question too small or too difficult.

In summary, if you are thinking of having your wedding here, go for it, you won't regret it.

We fell in love with Riddle's Court the moment we first visited. It has a rich history and it is such a romantic setting. It was perfect for the wedding we had planned (around 80 day guests and a few more in the evening for a ceilidh) but ultimately we did have to postpone and then change our plans. Our original date in April 2020 was postponed to March 2021 and we went ahead with the 5 person limit set by the government (with the remainder of our guests on Zoom).

The staff in Riddle's Court were courteous, understanding and helpful throughout, even when our plans were totally up in the air. They really made our wedding day incredible and relatively effortless due to their scrupulous planning and hard work. They thought of things that hadn't even occurred to us and had every angle covered. Communication was excellent, even during lockdown which is so important when you have several vendors to keep in touch with. In the run up to the wedding, they were even in touch with all of the vendors directly to coordinate, meaning we didn't have to worry about the small details. They have totally adapted to new restrictions and are Covid secure. When it started raining 10 minutes before the ceremony, they were there with an umbrella to escort me through the courtyard <3

We stayed in King's Chamber for 2 nights and it was the perfect place to get ready and relax. I could have taken a million photos, the view is so different out of each window.

Riddle's court is a very special place and will forever be in our hearts. The fact it is run by a charity, and therefore proceeds from your wedding go towards maintaining Edinburgh's rich heritage and history is the cherry on top.

As this is a small venue and not a big hotel, there is no in house catering, bar, etc. Therefore, be sure to ask about costs for furniture hire, etc as we hadn't initially budgeted for these extras when we were in the early stages of planning.

Special thanks to Gail and Roseanne x

Where do we being? We cannot rate Riddle's court enough. Gail and Roseanne were wonderful. They were helpful, understanding and made our micro-wedding feel full of happiness. We appreciate how much Riddle's had to adapt due to restrictions, but it felt no less a wedding.
The Geddes Room was divine! The original features and historic beauty made it a very special place for us. We loved the ceilings especially! They are truly amazing. Being able to stay over in the King's chamber was great for getting ready in the morning, less rushing and sleeping under the ancient beams was sublime.
Thank you once again for making our wedding day so memorable and sharing it with us.

Wow, what a day! ORGANIZING a wedding during lockdown is not advisable, but the team at Riddle's Court made it so easy and stress-free.

Gail and Roseanne were so supportive throughout the planning stages. Even with many changes due to the ever-changing restrictions, they were flexible and made the whole thing super easy. In addition, Gail and Roseanne were in direct contact with all of our suppliers, so there was very little we needed to do, making the whole process really effortless on our part!

The day itself was seamless, everything went so well, and there were no issues at all. The venue itself is so beautiful and was perfect for our small intimate wedding.

We could not recommend Riddle's Court as a wedding venue enough!

Riddle's Court is a beautiful venue! The lovely Gail and Roseanne hosted our wedding, and they were amazing from start to finish. It was a bit of a nightmare organizing everything during the pandemic, but Gail pulled it off. Nothing was too much of a hassle. From organizing a new partnership with caterers to last-minute changes celebrants and photographers, the Riddles Court team really made our day everything we wanted.

The venue looked stunning with the beautiful floristry we arranged, and the sun shone on the courtyard, making our photos even better.

Thanks for everything, Riddle's Court!

We managed to plan our wedding in record time and it would not have been possible without the help of Gail and Roseanne. They were incredibly helpful and managed to make our wedding just like we dreamed.

From the first communication to the last, Gail and Roseanne were amazing. The moment they showed us the Gueddes room, we knew we wanted it and despite the challenges due to covid restrictions, they helped us celebrate our wedding in that beautiful room.
The venue is absolutely stunning, it is a well preserved building from 1590. Our guests were amazed and complemented it a lot!

We couldn't recommend this place enough.

We can't believe we were lucky enough to get married at Riddle's Court. It's a wonderful venue in terms of its location, history and decor, as well as the absolutely amazing staff who helped organise the day and navigate the various covid related delays and changes. They really helped to make it the day that we wanted, and waited so long to have. Our guests were particularly impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, along with the beautiful setting. We cannot recommnend enough having your wedding at Riddle's court.

From our first viewing to our wedding day, the staff at Riddle's Court were nothing but helpful and friendly. To name a few, Roseanne, Gail, Teague and Fiona, were all great at answering our (many!) questions. Nothing was too much trouble. The venue itself was perfect for our small wedding. We had 46 guests during the day and 60 by the evening. Not only is Riddle's Court beautiful and interesting, but it's also fantastically located in an old town in the middle of Edinburgh, making it really handy for guests to travel to. It is also an ideal location for having photographs taken without having to go too far.

We also really appreciated how much Riddle's Court had plenty of decorations that we could use. We liked the idea of minimising single-use decorations. This also saved us some money and hassle!
The king's chamber is gorgeous and well-equipped, and it was great to be able to stay at the venue the night before the wedding as well as on the wedding night itself. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Riddle's Court!

Joyce McAree Miller

Riddle's Court is amazing. The space, the staff and planning allowed us to take our own suppliers in with no hint of annoyance. Other venues could learn a thing or two from you. It is a perfect location, just off the royal mile and the inclusion of a beautiful apartment for two nights is fantastic. Being woken by the queen for the opening of the parliament was not ideal, but pretty funny. There was a bit of an issue with confusion of the apartment booking, but it was solved to our satisfaction, so thanks.
We would say that it will be much more relaxed once you go back to the one wedding per week, or at least have a day between events. Thankfully Mrs. Miller was on the case to clear our wedding leftovers, decorations etc. out of the way for the next parties event.
Everyone had a hoot: we ate, drank and were merry. Thanks Riddle's Court, you rock!

Kerri LaBrash

Overall we had a wonderful wedding at Riddle’s Court. It was a rougher planning process than I had anticipated, but everything came together in the end, which is all that matters. Our guests loved the unique venue, and it felt just the right size for the 80 guests we had. The sneak peeks we’ve had from the photographer are PHENOMENAL, with the venue as backdrop. The staff on the night were fabulous, and you’d honestly sometimes forget they were even there. They were so good. Having the kings chamber was a cherry on top. It is so easy and convenient! For couples who want an intimate wedding, at a stunning venue, Riddle’s Court is the perfect place.

Nikki Vermeulen

We had such a lovely day and Riddle's Court is an ideal location, also for a small wedding. It was just the two of us and the staff at Riddle's court were very professional, guiding us through the process from the start with care, atmosphere and humour, making it a memorable day with beautiful pictures. Highly recommended!

Alex Ashman

Riddle's Court is an absolutely stunning venue! It was the perfect space for our 70 guests, and it was amazing to have the entire day take place all in one location. This included a wonderful ceremony in the Geddes room, our drinks reception in the Seton room, and our meal and evening entertainment in the library room. We also loved having the use of the King's Chamber apartment, which was luxuriously fitted out. We really lovely to stay in.
Overall, Riddle’s court is an incredibly beautiful historic building, right in the heart of Edinburgh's old town. We felt so lucky to have our wedding there, and were so impressed with everything about the venue.
The wedding day itself went incredibly smoothly. The team was fantastic, and ensured that everything flowed throughout the day in the background, so we didn’t have to worry about anything. The staff also accommodated special requests from us, (Orkney Cog, Arcade Machines, livestreams and photo booths to name a few), all lots of things that our guests really enjoyed. It was a wonderful day, and they helped make it so amazing. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a venue to other couples.

Andrew & Vincenzo Piggott & Coppola

Riddle's Court is an absolutely stunning venue, bursting with charm and character, and it is perfectly located in the centre of Edinburgh. We were so happy to find it, and it lived up to our every expectation. Gail and Roseanne were enormously helpful and kind throughout the whole process, with a brilliant eye for detail and a genuine passion for their work. We planned (and postponed) our wedding during the pandemic, but with each twist and turn in the tale they were patient, pragmatic and supportive.

David Shutt

Riddle's Court was the perfect venue for us. Not only was it a beautiful setting with bags of history, but the staff were also great! Throughout the wedding planning, they were always at the end of the phone to help us get everything in place, and during the wedding itself, they ensured the day ran smoothly, allowing us to enjoy our day. I couldn't recommend Riddle's Court enough!

Kirsty McFarlane

We chose to have our wedding in Riddles Court on 18/12/21 and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. We travelled from Australia to get married in our home country and Teague and Gail were an absolute delight to deal with from across the pond. They always got back to us promptly with any questions we had and were more than happy to video call us too. We postponed and changed our original date a few times (with another venue) due to travel restrictions and decided 8 weeks before our big day to book Riddles Court and we are so glad we did.

The venue is stunning, steeped in history and the perfect size for our wedding of just short of 50 people. It felt intimate and personal without feeling lost or empty. We used all three rooms (Geddes for ceremony, Seton and Geddes for drinks reception and Library for dinner and nighttime entertainment) and even on their own before any decorations or flowers are beautiful and ornate. We were very lucky with the weather and had a dry and sunny winters day so we were able to use the beautiful courtyard too and decorated it with Whisky barrels for tables. We were also able to head outside to the Royal Mile to get some amazing pictures with our photographer. We could not recommend this venue enough. All of our guests said how beautiful it was and how amazing the day was as a whole. Nothing was too much trouble for Gail or Teague and the beautiful building is in the perfect Edinburgh location. If you are thinking about having your wedding at Riddles Court then just do it, you won't regret it!

Claire Pearson

We were really impressed with our whole Riddle’s Court experience. It was the perfect venue for our scaled-down wedding. Gail was really helpful during the 6 week preparation for the day. The website resources were really helpful too. The venue was decorated beautifully for a Christmas wedding. It was simple but effective. Teague and Jenna were helpful, professional and reassuring on the day, which was something we appreciated. The canapes were highly rated by everyone at the event. Being upgraded to the Geddes room due to the new covid variant was the icing on the cake. Both the Seton room and Geddes room were beautiful. Thanks again for making our small but perfect wedding a special one for us. Claire and Patrick

We had a wonderful wedding at Riddle's Court. We booked the venue, unseen, in early summer 2020, and from the first enquiry the team were incredibly professional, helpful and supportive, with a genuine warmth and enthusiasm for the success of our wedding day.

We were organising the wedding across the pandemic and the team did a wonderful job to help and support our enquiries, being very professional while always working and communicating government restrictions clearly, but being as flexible as they could be, within those rules.

The venue was beautiful and we were thrilled with the choice. It had a wonderful ambience. Our guests all commented on what a great location it is. It’s perfect to be in the centre of the city, and also very close to the registrars office for collecting and dropping of the relevant paperwork.

We stayed in the Kings Chamber on site before and after the wedding, and this was great. The apartment is decorated beautifully and it a perfect location to stay in the city. It was also very useful to have a spot on site to get ready and take deliveries, etc for the day.

We felt it was also good value for money.
